I tried to think back and consider what advice I would have received favorably when I graduated from high school.  But then I remembered, I already knew everything.  It took a few more years of seasoning before I realized just how unaware and unprepared I really was.

When I walked across that makeshift stage on our football field with the 31 other graduates of that year – I fully expected to do as little as possible for as long as possible as I visited every beach in America.  One year later I was married and working every job I could find to make ends meet.

What has amazed me though through the years, are the many doors that have opened for me.  This could only happen by the power of the Holy Spirit, because quite frankly many of these pathways took me in some very uncomfortable directions.  But God used them all – and the wonderful thing about all of this is that it’s still happening.

Ok . . . Point! I wonder how many of these avenues I missed.  I wonder how many I would have missed had I not been striving to follow Christ?  So here’s the deepest thought that I can pass on to you . . . ready?
Listen!
Listen to God's call of salvation.
Listen to the Holy Spirit’s leading in your life.
Tune out the noise and listen – then follow.

ROARING FIRE PDF Print E-mail

“And now the word of the Lord is ringing out from you to people everywhere, even beyond Macedonia and Achaia, for wherever we go we find people telling us about your faith in God.  We don’t need to tell them about it.”  1 Thessalonians 1:8 (NLT)

As the old saying goes: “You don’t have to advertise a fire!”

When we are burning bright for Christ it becomes apparent to the world.

The church in Thessalonica had such a flame going that everyone who came in contact with them was being singed and affected by their faith.  Paul states later in his letter to this church, that one of the most impressive proofs of their inward desire for Christ was their outward change.  They had turned from following the ways of the world and were living a God-focused life.

Living with a desire for the things of this world dampens our spirit, diminishes our flame, and darkens our walk . . . leaving our witness cold and lifeless.

Would it be possible for us to turn from our idols and live a Christ-centric life?  To do so requires a faith-walk that will set you in direct opposition with this gilded trap we call home.  But it’s the only possible way our small spark could ever catch hold and roar.

Let your wood begin to dry by seeking God’s guidance for your life today.  Just today!  Who knows it may become a holy-habit that will lead to a roaring fire!

ARE YOU WILLING TO FOLLOW? PDF Print E-mail

According to a Lifeway study, only 2 percent of a local congregation is involved in regularly inviting unbelievers to church.  That’s an incredible statistic!

This means either that most of the existing church doesn’t actually believe what they proclaim to believe – that Jesus is the answer to all of life’s issues.  Or we’ve allowed this world to so recapture our attention and passion, that our spiritual walk has moved down the pecking order of our lives.

Our walk is our witness.  How we live, the things we pursue within this world, actually expose what we believe and what’s important to us.

Take an inward look today.  Is the pursuit of Jesus the most vital aspect of your life?  Do those around you experience this truth?  Ask yourself, am I unwilling to allow anything to diminish my devotion?

“If you want to be My disciple, you must hate everyone else by comparison – your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters – yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple.”  Luke 14:26 (NLT)

Being a disciple requires a decision.  Are you willing to follow?

CAPTURED OR CAPTIVATED? PDF Print E-mail

“Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made . . .” Genesis 3:1

What was true then is true today.
Satan, in the form of a serpent, was able to effectively deceive those with arguably the closest physical relationship mankind has ever experienced with God.

This tells us something that we would do well to take notice of.  If Adam and his bride can succumb to the deceiver’s voice – then how susceptible are we?

Obviously “Christ within” is our only hope.  But we all know by personal experience that we possess the unique ability to ignore the Master’s voice.

This leaves us open to the subtlety of the enemy.
Within our “American Dream” culture, there are so many ways to become captivated by lessor kingdoms.

Our Apostle Paul urges us to beware . . .
“See to it that no one takes you captive . . .”  Colossians 2:8A (ESV)

Freedom must be carefully guarded.

EASTER PDF Print E-mail

“. . . and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead.  To this we are witnesses.”    Acts 3:15 (ESV)

Easter is God’s answer to man’s dilemma.
Sin separates the created from the Creator.
This hopelessness of humanity that can only be fully comprehended by our divine Designer finds its solution in this miraculous passion event.

Easter emerges as the most amazing gift given to man outside of creation.
We now exist with hope due to the willingness of God the Son to shed His blood on our behalf.

Easter is victory –
Victory of life over death, light over darkness, and hope over hopelessness.
Easter is the triumphant blast of our God for all time – that He loves us above all – that we are His greatest treasure.

Easter is the expression of God’s compassionate and divine answer for our dilemma.
