“But the Lord said to me, ‘Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak.”  Jeremiah 1:7

Put in southern-ese: God said, “I don’t wanna hear it!  Buck up and do what you’re told.”

Jeremiah was no different than any of us today.  If we can find an excuse that we think will fly – we’ll use it to get out of an uncomfortable situation.

God was well aware of Jeremiah’s age . . .
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (verse 5) . . . so the age thing was not a valid excuse for God.

But to be fair, this was a real issue for Jeremiah not just a lame attempt to pass the buck.  He knew his culture – it’s  proclivity to dismiss the young.  He knew the cultural bias might interrupt the message.  However, as we see here, God is more interested in Jeremiah’s obedience than any perceived man-made impediment. 

Are you presently clinging to self made excuses circumventing what God has called you to accomplish? 

God’s pleasure would be for you step over any excuse and follow through!

CHURCH OF COMPASSION PDF Print E-mail

We have determined that through loving people, sharing the gospel and building community we express ourselves as a church of compassion.  These cannot be mere words that we contemplate occasionally, but rather heartfelt truths that move us to action.

If any part of our community feels unloved, unappreciated, or even unwanted, what does that say about our commitment in following a loving Savior into His world with His truth?  We, the church, exist within our communities as the very presence of Christ.  We are the light, the compassion of God moving among men.

Comite Church of Compassion, make your presence known – make His presence known among the frustrated, hurting, or hope-drained.

Be The Church of Compassion every day!

TRANSPARENCY PDF Print E-mail

Transparency has become a catchword in our culture today.  Yet, it becomes readily apparent that the word “transparency” can have varying degrees of meaning.

Terms are what’s important.

If I can phrase a statement with any degree of vagueness – then that gives me or someone defining my statement or statements wiggle room.  This tendency, at least to my understanding, renders the term transparency moot.  If I can conveniently shift meaning, then there is actually no true meaning.

Apply this thought process to the words of Christ found in John 14:

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”  John 14:6 (ESV)

Consider:
Is there any wiggle room?
Any vagueness?
Any question of intent?

These words were framed and spoken to be direct, clear, and consequential.  No further meetings regarding details or intent needed – just acceptance and implementation.

Christ is completely transparent – He’s the only way to life!

Peace equals environment.  Is that true?  If there is no open hostility within our carefully constructed world, then we have peace . . . or so it would seem. 

So, the natural solution is that we intentionally channel our lives (to the best of our ability) in order to avoid the hostile places that cause us concern – makes sense!  Of course we know the fallacy of this narrow view of peace because we live within its daily contradiction.

Peace is more than a place, an environment to be controlled –
Peace is organic, it’s fluid, it involves our heart and soul.
It is a divine gift!

True peace flows from a source that overcomes impediments such as environment, deep-seeded fears, hatred and mistrust.

Peace is more than just the lack of hostility . . .
Peace is a gift.
Given by the best gift-giver of all.

Being aware of all that we need – He pours His peace into His people regardless of the environment.

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart.  And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.  So don’t be troubled or afraid.”   John 14:27 (NLT)

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. – That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed . . .

These words that we know so well and that speak so vividly to our minds and hearts are but an excerpt from a declaration of vision.  This Declaration of Independence was a document of such forward thinking and absolute vision that it was seen as turning the entire world upside down.  However, it was not the first to do so!

No document can be more forward-thinking nor life-altering than the sacred script which records the words of our Christ:

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’  But I say to you, ‘Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven.  For He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.  For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?  Do not even the tax collectors do the same?’”
Matthew 5:43-46 (ESV)
