You Doubt Me? PDF Print

I heard someone say the other day they were skeptical of skeptics.  To be a skeptic means that one leads with their doubt or lives in it.  Their attitude is tempered by doubt.  To be skeptical at times though is simply being a real person.  Doubt creeps in your faith walk, it happens, no matter how well you stand guard.  And to be honest that’s not necessarily a bad thing.  If your belief-system is stagnant, you may stop searching, which could severely stunt your growth as a Christian.  Doubting from time to time is real – embrace it and learn from the results of it.  After all, if John the Baptist could have doubts overtake him, then who’s safe from them?

Doubt often rears its ugly head when our lives start to come unraveled a bit.  Let’s face it, as long as we’re walking the primrose path we need not challenge any of our assumptions, right? But when life becomes a little uncertain – watch out – we start questioning  whether God’s  in full control or not.  Maybe we begin to think we need to take over.  Sad how it sometimes takes “hard knocks” to wake us up to the fact that we’re not in control of this whole thing.  God has a way of getting our attention, doesn’t He?  As they say, the best way to always remember your wife’s birthday is to forget it once.

We forget God often, don’t we?  At times, we fail to remember that He always has more to give us, more to teach us.  My suggestion is to embrace your doubts, bring them to God and say here they are Lord, please help thou my unbelief.  You’re not going to overwhelm Him nor will you in any way anger Him. Instead you’ll find the understanding Spirit of the Maker that will enlighten and begin to change your life, for the better!

Teach us Your way O Lord,

–Dale
