FAN THE FLAMES PDF Print

Flames within can only burn brightly when they are opened up and allowed to become exposed to those near us.  Just as a blazing fire needs oxygen to grow and glow – our inner divine flame must be revealed in order to do the same.  Contained, it struggles to survive cooling down to a low ember – waiting for that rush of wind.

The Apostle Paul writes:

“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.”  2 Timothy1:6 (ESV)

The laying on of hands symbolizes Timothy’s salvation and his subsequent calling as a minister of the Gospel.  He had a divine flame within – but notice he also had certain control over that gift.  “Fan the flame” is Paul’s fervent instruction!

What about your holy gift or gifts?  Are they ignored?  Or do you stoke them, strengthening their usefulness?

May I encourage you today to “fan the flame” placed within your heart by a Holy God.  That you might feel the smoldering embers roar into a raging fire within.  Let it breath that others might be drawn to life.
