DIVIDING THE WORD OF TRUTH PDF Print

Are you fond of conversing about your faith?

Seems that so many find this a drudgery or danger (unless they know the crowd is with them).  Most believers actually do enjoy discussing deep spiritual truths when the location and environment are safe – a place where our conclusions and perhaps our leaps will not be seriously challenged.  But it gets dicey when others seriously question or even adamantly oppose our presuppositions and conclusions.

I’ve noticed over the years that many long-time Christians are much too quick to use well-worn cliches that sound great to the cheerleaders but may actually do more harm than good for those not familiar with our jargon.  Here’s the thing, nothing firms up your point of view like God’s word.  Being able to say, “Sacred scripture teaches this . . .” rather than, “well this is what I think.”  Because in the end our clever use of glib speech will never usher in the desired change that only Sacred Script can accomplish.

So . . .

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”  2 Timothy 2:15 KJV
