Beginnings are exciting . . . mostly.  We, for the most part, enjoy the newness of a situation.  We like to think that the new will be better than the old, or previous – and in the case of Christianity that’s absolutely true.

The old covenant made at Sinai became a holiness code for Israel to follow, showing them how to become a royal priesthood and an entire kingdom of priests.  But, as the apostle writes:

“For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.”  Romans 3:20 ESV

The Law was given to guide, and teach, that we the people need more – we need God within!

“He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant.  This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit.  The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life.”  2 Corinthians 3:6 NLT

So in Christ we become, “New.”  We become something other than what we were . . .

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.  The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”  2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV

The beauty of this “New” is that it does not, in any way, simply discard the old law – but it fulfills every minute detail.  Instilling and installing it within our hearts, our minds, and souls!

This “New’s” creative power is not found in a formality or strict adherence to a new code of ethics, but rather in a Person.  Jesus Christ within us, marks us as His special possession and then empowers us to overcome the sin (our sin) that brought about the need for such a radical “Newness” in the first place.

Beginnings are exciting – but not only exciting . . . they are also recognizable.  So here’s the all important question . . . do you recognize this new change within your life?
